Might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure you can’t use an umlaut in urls.

The url-alias field has likely been set up to strip out any ’forbidden’ characters. Such as umlauts smiley

It does not strip umlauts out on this site. MODx revo 1.05 rc1
I was hoping it would be stripped out, cause this site gas auto generate URL aliases to "on".

I just tried it myself and I see that it doesn’t strip them. I guess you could create a plugin that removes the umlaut when saving the page?

Actually, on investigation there is already a plugin out there that can do this for you:

          TransliterateAlias

I think that might do the job!

I m afraid that plugin comes standard in 1.05 rc and does not replace the umlaut. This a bug??

I had no idea that plugin was there...

Go to the plugin in the manager, select the configuration tab, then set Trans table to ’common’. Also, check that Restrict alias to is set to ’lowercase alphanumeric’ if you want to have capital letters changed to lowercase.

Tried it out and worked for me. It’s not a bug, just that way by design.

If you’re interested, open up the files in the plugin’s transliteration folder to see how it’s set up. I guess you could even create your own, say if you wanted to have ’ü’ converted to ’ue’.
