    Hello. I’ve managed to build a site using modx revolution but have run into real problems when trying to turn on friendly URLs.

    I think the problem is that I installed modx with a different hosting company than my old website while I built the new version, which was running on a temporary address. I then changed the DNS settings to point to my new site, but the Manager keeps defaulting to the temporary web address it was installed on so when I edit the .htaccess file as per the FURL instructions I end up in a kind of loop where everytime I enter my login details for the manager I’m returned to the login screen or the site refuses to work unless I get rid of the .htaccess file. I thought there must be some settings in the manager that could be altered to change the site URL but can’t find anything.

    Has anyone else had this problem or has a solution. I’m really a designer with some coding skills and haven’t done too bad up to now but I seem to be beating my head against a brick wall with this one.

    thanks, Matt

      **UPDATE**

      I’ve been messing with this all day and have realised it is kind of working. When I turn on FURL’s and edit the .htaccess file, my homepage (index) does display correctly and the URL (www.matt-wade.co.uk) is displaying correctly as well. It’s when I click on any of the other resources that the site breaks down. The links to other pages do work but the CSS isn’t working and the images won’t load so I’m just getting text only. I’m guessing the assets aren’t being referenced. After reading various posts on this sort of thing I think I might need to edit the various core.config files manually, but I’m a bit reluctant to do so in caseI completely cock my site up.

      Any ideas?

      Matt

        I notice that in your home page source
         <base href="http://79.170.44.156/matt-wade.co.uk/" />

        while in the inner pages it’s
         <base href="http://matt-wade.co.uk/matt-wade.co.uk/" />

        I also notice that your inner page’s menu links are getting a 404 due to an extra matt-wade.co.uk in the URL.

          I know, it’s driving me nuts. You must have viewed it when I had the FURLs turned off. The 79.... URL is my temp web address which I installed modx on, the matt-wade.co.uk is my actual URL. This is really frustrating, I thought the build would be the tricky bit and now I’m falling at the final hurdle. I’ve spent all day on this and have got nowhere. When I turn friendly aliases on the site kind of works (I don’t get 404 errors) but none of the content or stylesheets are working so I just get text links and placeholders. This is why I think there’s some setting I must have missed, but I’ve read (and tried) most everything I can find.

          It’s a real shame as up ’til now using modx has been a revelation to me and something I’ve enjoyed getting to grips with

            What does the <base href=...> look like in your template?
