I am trying to upgrade my modx version from:

    MODx version 1.0.4
    Version codename rev 6981

To the most recent one. My reason for this is because my employer has had problems with malware on his site in the past, and I know that it is important to keep software up to date for security purposes.

However, I am pretty convinced the version he is using is ancient and a smooth upgrade may be impossible. Is it worth going through the hassle of this upgrade? Will I be able to use the same database structure?

Are you going *to* or *from* version 1.0.4 and do you want to go to 1.0.5 or Revolution? Going from Evo 1.0.4 to Evi 1.0.5 shouldn’t be that tricky (excluding customized material).

MODx Evolution (1.x) and MODx Revolution (2.x) are separate branches of MODx. There’s no direct upgrade path from one to the other as yet.

1.0.5 is the current version of MODx Evolution. If the site is working well for you, there’s really no reason to switch to MODx Revolution.

Ok, I didn’t notice that at first. I’ll stick with Evolution
