I tried to change the path to my session files (in my .htaccess) and now all of my paths (links,files etc) are prefixed with /gs-bin. what could be causing this?

Try clearing your site cache?
Stupid question time on my part : can you change the htaccess file back to its prior state and revert to where you were? Or is it somehow now seeming like a permanent change?

first thing i tried, but it made no difference. really confused why is starting doing this.
ok, thankfully I have fixed this, I have removed my php.ini file, which had only this in it:
upload_max_filesize = 10M
post_max_size = 10M
no idea why this cause a problem suddenly?
