    Hello all. smiley

I’ve been recently hired to take over managing a site that’s been created using MODx. I think this engine is fantastic, but I’m still learning about it and could use some help.

My client needs me to implement a blog in the existing template. How can I do that? I’m NOT familliar with PHP (which is probably a bad thing), but they are giving me as much time as I need to learn, seeing as the other designer was a total flake.

So, down to the root of the matter.

How can I implement a blog into the existing template? My client needs to be able to have people who don’t know how to use a CMS log in and be able to post something. What do I use to make this happen?

Thanks for your patience, and I look forward to hearing your responses. laugh

The first bit of info people here will need before helping you is knowing if you are using Evolution or Revolution?

Yep, we need to start out with what version of MODX you are using. This should be noted in the top Right or Left of the manager (depending on version). We can give you some suggestions on what snippets to use, documentation for them, and such.

In regards to integrating a blog in the existing template you will need to tell us a little more about the site. Send us a link so we can see what you are working with and provide suggestions. It’s really a question of what you are working.

The site uses revolution, and you can see the site here: http://www.pomswellness.com.

          Thanks.

Check out the fantastic tutorial on creating a blog here: http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Creating+a+Blog+in+MODx+Revolution

And then the only thing left would be customizing the back-end to hide what is not needed (only access to blog for certain user). That I’m still learning, but I did watch a video somewhere about it with the basics, don’t recall where, maybe try googling for it?

I am playing with this myself. There are a lot of moving parts in that tutorial. You don’t have to use all the pieces all at once.

I am trying using one snippet at a time, starting with getResources, a container resource and child resources with the intro, etc filled out. I can then check what code is being generated. I then can style the divs and classes along the way.

I am finding that this system takes a little figuring out and experimenting with. But I like that I can get most of the blog functionality going without the whole mess screaming "this is a Wordpress site!!"

I hope this thread gains more traction.

Good luck and keep us up to date with your progress...
