Hey guys,
Long time user of Modx, this is the first time I’ve come across any real problems!
We’re just recently moved a client’s website to a new server. It seemed the transfer went perfectly, however now we’re beginning to use the system, we are noticing some odd problems. I have no idea what’s going on and would greatly appreciate any advice!
So here we go:
1. Manager users - we can no longer save any changes, after investigating on Firefox, when the save button is clicked, this error is presented:
"document.userform.save is undefined
function onclick(event) { documentDirty = false; document.userform.save.click(); }(click clientX=141, clientY=19)"
2. Resource Browser - When accessing the resource browser via TinyMCE, we’re unable to view any files or folders. When we go to create a new folder we’re presented with the message "You have no permissions to create a folder". This of course, makes me think that the file permissions are wrong, however, after changing those to 777, we still receive the same error.
3. Tools - Configuration - We’re missing the file manager tab, it’s gone AWOL! I think a court-martial is in order...
I’m stumped on these - only thing I can think of is file permissions, but I’ve been changing these all over the shot and has caused any changes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Best,
Andy
Thanks for the quick response Jusicgn.
Although I think we’re past that particular point.
The install went with no hitches, we’re connected to the DB, the front end works perfectly, and we’re able to create/edit/save content.
The problem is with these particular points - I’m not sure they’re install related, but perhaps more to do with file permissions, however I don’t have enough knowledge of the system to understand what might be happening.
See if your host is using suPHP. In that case the permissions for folders need to be 755 and the files 644.
Thanks for the Advice BobRay
Turns out the resource manager problem comes from not having the right path (The new host are using come crazy paths!) - However, we were unable to change it through the manager interface, since our file manager tab has disappeared, this had to be done directly in the database.
So, to update, we have the file manager working, and we’re able to upload, phew!
We still have some odd problems present - however they don’t directly interfere with the running of the website. They are:
1. Still can’t save any changes to manager user profiles - we get presented with the error:
"document.userform.save is undefined
function onclick(event) { documentDirty = false; document.userform.save.click(); }(click clientX=141, clientY=19)"
I have absolutely no idea what this is.
2. Tools - Configuration - We’re still missing the file manager tab - what might cause this to just randomly disappear?
Thanks for all the advice and help, I really appreciate it!

The problems are kind of odd. Try clearing the site cache and the browser cache/cookies. It probably won’t help, but can’t hurt.
Beyond that, unless you have some odd javascript security settings in your browser (unlikely if everything worked before), my guess would be one or more corrupted or missing files in the download or upload.
I had a similar problem in the 1.0 modx -- loaded the software fine, then imported a new MySQL database back-up from an existing site into the new, empty site. Updated all the paths, but after logging out and then back in, the File Manager tab disappeared.
What worked for me:
1. download a fresh copy of modx
2. upload all of it (don’t forget to note your config settings)
3. run the upgrade option
4. delete the installer
When I logged back in, the file manager was back.
