    Hi there,

MODx Revolution site, 2.0.8. All running fine, then the client tries to protect the directory that the site is in through a utility on the server (1&1, yes, I know...)

Anyway, it didn’t work, and even though the directory protection has been removed, the site is still down.

When I try to access the front end, I get:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /site/path/index.php on line 69

And when I try the managed I get:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING in /site/path/manager/index.php on line 55

Anybody know whats up, and how to fix? I’m thinking an upgrade might help?

    Thanks

Wow, that title could be taken entirely out of context...

It sounds like 1 & 1 molested your index.php file and possibly your .htaccess file (that’s often how password-protecting of directories works).

If I were you, I’d download a fresh copy of 2.0.8 and then overwrite the problematic index.php file with the one from the copy (save a backup first). I’d do the same for the .htaccess file as well (I’m presuming you’re running this on a Linux server).

Ok, slightly misleading title, but I was in a rush and thought it might be a quick fix!

All sorted now. I’m not exactly sure what 1&1 did to the site, but I’m pretty sure file molestation had taken place. My short experience with 1&1 so far is far from good! Thank God I don’t have to deal with them for the majority of the project I do.

A site upgrade did the trick in the end, and I manually produced a .htaccess file to protect the site.

        Thanks!

I just had a site go down - the host is 1and1 - the index.php was missing, I took the chance to upgrade from 2.07 to 2.08. No idea how it happened. I should add that 1and1 has been trouble free for me so far - though I have never called/needed support
