Hmm.... lots of questions here...
Yes, MODx has lots of permissions... it has the most thorough permissions schema of any CMS I’ve worked with, so that’s a wormhole of a question. Can you tell us: are you able to log into the MODx manager for this site at
http://www.secureidentitysystems.com/manager/ ?
Please, always include your MODx version number in your posts. I can tell that you’re running MODx Evolution... looks like version 1.0.4 or later.
The [~123~] type shorthand will generate a full URL for the resource id specified (e.g. page id 123 in this example). It’s odd if you have unfriendly URLs on the rest of your site, but this link is pointing to an actual PHP page. What might have been done is that the dev might have created a weblink that resolves to a physical file on the site (weblinks can also point to external sites). This lets you handle external links alongside internal pages so they can show up in menus (and since they get an id, they can linked to using the [~123~] shorthand). It sounds like that’s what’s being used... the "content" of a weblink will just be a URL. It looks like if you FTP’d to this site and navigated to the
/forms directory, you’d expect to find a PHP file named
information_businesses.php. But considering that the page is generating a 404 error, maybe that’s the whole problem: that page ISN’T there. I’d recommend avoiding using weblinks unless you really need one... they might be confusing to MODx newcomers.
Is any of that helpful?
