My webhost is trying to install MODx for me but is having difficulty. The english isn’t perfect but please read the following - any help really appreciated.

    ---
We tried to install MODX using the steps provided in the link ’http://rtfm.modx.com/display/MODx096/Installation’.

We downloaded the ’modx-2.0.7-pl-advanced.zip’ zip file and then unzipped that file.
As per the installation steps, we will have use the URL "http://xxxxxxxx.org.uk/setup" to proceed with the installation. But, it is not redirecting to the second page of installation when you click on "Select". Hence we believe that issue might be with the set up file or something to be enabled in the server (or domain) to proceed. As there is no error message corresponding to this installation, we are not able to track the exact issue.

We also tried to install with modx-2.0.7-pl.zip, but it didn’t work.

It would be great if you can contact the support of "MODX " to see if there is any wrong with the installation.

    Server version : Apache/1.3.41 (Unix)
    MYSQL version : 4.1.22-standard

Tell them to use the right documentation, for the Revolution branche instead of 0.9.6, which is a couple years old: http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Basic+Installation

Also, your host seems to be using the advanced package. (modx-2.0.7-pl-advanced.zip) Unless you want to change the manager and/or core folder you should just use the standard release (modx-2.0.7-pl.zip). If you do insist on using the advanced release (for the reasons mentioned), you may refer them to these instructions: http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Advanced+Installation

Thanks Mark - I’ve passed on your advice - hopefully that should do it. Mick

I tried to install Modx by following the instruction in the URL : http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Basic+Installation. I downloaded the file modx-2.0.7-pl.zip and extracted the zip file. After that I gave 777 permission to the folders core/cache and core/config. But the problem still persists. According to the Installation guide, they are mentioning like:

          -------
From there you will be asked to choose a language, and be presented with a welcome screen. Click Next when you’re ready.
          -------

I am not able to locate the Next button or continue to the second page after selecting the language. You may verify it through the URL :

            Anything in the error logs?

When I go here: http://constantinople.hostgo.com/~heronhil/modx-2.0.7-pl/setup/index.php?action=welcome?restarted=1 you’ll see there’s a few errors relating to neccessary files.

My best guess at this point is that something in the download or upload went wrong and there’s important files missing.

If you would like me to give it a try, please send me an email (see sig) with the FTP details and MySQL details (db name, user login + pass) and I’ll give it a shot this evening.

Just had a closer look and seems like that’s actually because the url was distorted and it obviously can’t find that url.

Maybe something related.. I had trouble installing Revo on a host that was awaiting for the domainname to be assigned to it. Because I was accessing it through its IP it would fire of safe_mode which blocked the installer from continueing. The difference between that and this situation is that my situation gave a big "SAFE MODE ENABLED" error. Perhaps the error message is being surpressed or it’s not related at all.

              Just trying to think along.

You also mentioned SuExec, which requires that directory permissions be 755 and files 644. That could be part of your problem.

Mark - I’ll try and get the details to you asap. You may have something with the safe mode ’thing’ - this is a new site and I was trying to get it set up while the domain transfer was being processed. The transfer has now completed.

My host has replied as follows and has given up trying to get this to work.
                    ---
I have checked the error logs in server but it is not showing any error. I have downloaded the install package and re-uploaded it. But still it is showing the same issue. The permissions of folder is correct.
                    ---
I’ve asked for the db settings and I’ll email as mentioned earlier.
