I don’t know what is wrong and why, but I’m getting tired of it, so I’d like to run MODX on a completely fresh DB. There’s a lot of manual work if I were to copy and paste every single TV, chunk etc. so I am wondering does a tool exist that would do this job for me? I don’t want to import the whole database as I’ve gotten errors from it. Some extras don’t work, update won’t go through without an error:
    ...
    [2011-02-20 11:17:25] (ERROR @ /setup/index.php) Could not copy /home/.../public_html/core/packages/core/modContext/e83974cb082864f1002658936ff23737/1/ to /home/.../public_html/manager/controllers
    [2011-02-20 11:17:25] (ERROR @ /setup/index.php) Could not copy /home/.../public_html/core/packages/core/modContext/e83974cb082864f1002658936ff23737/2/ to /home/.../public_html/manager/templates
    ...

Arrays are missing. Some of the system settings were gone. It’s really likely that none of these are caused by bugs, rather that I have messed something up. The site has been moved from my own computer to a live server and after that to a new server, so there are plenty of places where I could have messed something up.

So at this point I’m thinking that instead of trying to find the problem, which seems to be very well hidden, I should just make a fresh install and try to copy the contents, because it would be easier and faster that way. I have a week of vacation and I will use all of it to Ctrl+c - > Ctrl+v if I have to, but not before I know it’s absolutely necessary.

    Edit: using revolution

I made the attached module as part of creating an installer for PubKit. It will create installer tpl files from the definitions of chunks etc., which you can substitute for the files in a standard installer’s "install/assets" folder. I’ve used it a few times to transfer definitions from one site to another. You’re welcome to try it, but note it is still a bit clonky and very much a "work in progress".

Copying content to a fresh DB is much more involved, since so much is cross-related by existing data such as resource IDs. I’m still copying & pasting this end of things manually. One trick I have learnt lately however (recreating a site after a snippet ran a little haywire and created 7,000 unwanted copies of a document!) is that you can drag and drop from one screen to another, rather than copy in one and paste in the other (I’m using Windows 7 with two monitors). That can save a lot of keypresses.

      cool KP

I read the readme file and it specifies this as a tool for Evolution. Of course I forgot to mention that I run Revolution. It’s still a great tool and those that find this topic looking for help with Evo got their answer wink

Have you tried the Provisioner package? I’ve pulled content from an Evo install to a Revo install successfully with that. It would also pull material from a Revo site, though I haven’t tried that.

That looks really promising. I actually saw the package, but for some reason remembered it had something to do with pharmacies. Sometimes I amaze myself, even tongue Looks like a great little extra so far.
