    Hi all!

I am playing around with ModX to get aquainted and to see, if it is what I am looking for. So far it looks good.

While following the Quickstart Guide (http://modx.com/learn/quickstart/) I was running in the following problem: I couldn’t install any sample site, because when I want to the sample site category as described, there was only one package available for installation, and that was the ActivationEmail package.

Well, I tought I don’t really need the sample site, I can create my own samples. So I followed the tutorial, until I was required to install the wayfinder snippet. Same problem here. I am not quite sure what is going on.

I have Modx installed on a XAMPP system on localhost (under Windows XP) and use Google Chrome to view it. I had played around a little with Modx in version 2.0.3 and as far as I recall, I could install packages. Today I installed 2.0.7 over the 2.0.3 version and it seems everything worked well.

Any ideas how to solve this?

You probably did this, but just in case --

Go to System -> Package Management
Click on the Download Extras button.

Put Wayfinder in the search box at the upper left.

Tell us what comes up if it’s not Wayfinder. wink

No, I didn’t use the search field for the wayfinder, but I did for the sample sites.

I tried it with the wayfinder and what shows up is "ActivationEmail". The same thing if I click on any of the "most popular" or "newest editions" links that are on the main page of the packages section.

        It is really strange.

I guess I will install a new version parallely and see what happens.

Well, now I really don’t know what is going wrong...

I installed ModX from scratch (in the same database but with different prefix.

          Same problem...

I try to download it from the standard repository "modxcms.com" that is already in my installation. Is that correct or do I need to add any other "provider"?

The URL for modxcms.com is "http://rest.modxcms.com/extras/". Is that correct?

I thought I might just download the packages manually as there is a "search locally for packages" option. And I just typed in http://rest.modxcms.com/extras/ into my browser, but I can’t access it. That might be actually the problem. Is it the wrong URL? I don’t block anything here on my end (as far as I know...) grin

Well, I found the URL for manual download of extras:

              http://modxcms.com/extras/?versionFilter=revolution

Installed the wayfinder manually and it seems to work fine. I am wondering if the problem is the URL now. I should at least get some page when inserting http://rest.modxcms.com/extras/ into the browser address field.

                Do you have cURL enabled?

Btw, the rest URL is for xmlrpc requests, so it won’t work if you go there directly.

The /extras URL is the place to download packages for Manual installation.

                  Hi BobRay,

                  Thank you for your response.

So the rest URL is OK, just not accessible via a normal browser, good.

I will have a check if cURL is enabled. Nur quite sure what it is, but I think it will be found in the phpinfo, probably? I’ll have a look into this.

I didn’t have any error messages during the install process.

I have uncommented the curl part in the php.ini, restarted apache (twice) but still the same.

Should curl show up in the phpinfo.php? Because I checked and there is nothing about curl. Checked again in php.ini, but it is uncommented (without the ";").

If it’s enabled, you should be able to find it in the php info.

Php.ini often only works in the directory you put the file in. Try asking your host to turn it on.
