Depending on the browser,
<base href="[(site_url)]"></base>
would be even better. The ... /> works in most browsers because they don’t know what it is, so they presume a closing tag. A few will just choke on it; so specifically using a closing tag here prevents that from happening.
Ok, I see where I made a mistake with that part of the code and I have tried it your way Breezer and your way sottwell and there is no difference. I really hate to be a bother with this but other than that one error you guys pointed out I don’t see how if I set the css to
background-image: url(../img/bg_image.png);
that an image won’t show.
This is really odd and frustrating.

Where are you setting the url? If I go to your site, do a "view source" and then go to the css file, it’s
background-image: url(img/bg_image.png);
Looks like you’re fighting with the wrong file...
I don’t believe that is it and here is why. I have my current live site still up and where my live site is I have the "modx-1.0.0" folder to which I have placed the "amdesigns" folder into the "templates" folder and the "amdesigns" folder has the "img" folder and the "styles" folder. This way I can keep my site live while I setup everything in the "mox-1.0.0" folder.
Did I set this up wrong? I figured if I can get the whole modx setup done in the modx folder and then switch the site files that I would be ok.

Go to your site, and do a "view source" to see the HTML. See where the link to the css file is, and go there in your browser to view the css file (or save the page as a complete HTML document, which will also save the css file).
<link href="assets/templates/amdesigns/styles/master.css"rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/>
http://www.amdesignsstudio.com/modx-1.0.0/assets/templates/amdesigns/styles/master.css
I have NO CLUE how that happened Susan! But thank you very very much for all of your help and patience! That was it.
Thank you very much once again! Now I can continue with the rest of the setup.

I can’t begin to remember how many times I’ve done the same thing... my FTP browser fetching the wrong file, or from the wrong site, and I fight for hours trying to figure out what is going wrong. I finally wised up and now I always double-check my files the first time something seems odd.
That will now be my first course of action Susan!
Thank you once again and I hope that you have a great holiday weekend!
