Hi,
I never seem to understand the charactersets. I am trying to setup a multi language site. One of the languages will have to be Persian.
How dod I get this? What do I use for the database, then for the collation and for Modx? I am los a bit. O yeah Modx Evo 1.04.

Everything should be utf8. Make sure this includes the database, the tables, and all text, varchar or char fields. You may have to modify your database to set the collation to be utf8_something_ci, then re-install.
If you use phpMyAdmin (as most cPanel hosting provides) open the database, then go to the Operations tab. At the bottom will be a select drop-down for collation. Scroll down to the UTF8 section, and select one of these. The utf8_general_ci is usually a safe choice, although there is a utf8_persian_ci. I don’t know how this would behave in a multi-language situation; English is always safe in any collation since it always takes up the first section of the character set.
While you’re at it, don’t use 1.0.4, 1.0.5 has been released for a few weeks now and has some major improvements as well as a couple of security fixes.
Got it, running localy so setting it up again was no problem. Language direction with yams does not seem to work. Will update to 1.0.5 asap, tnx
