Modx Newb question

Hello everyone here, I’m from somewhere else. I like right angles, horizontals and perpendiculars.

So, I finally moved my website in-house and have started to get php, mysql and modx running.

I’m running php 5.3 mysql 5.5 and modx revo on windows server 2008r2 with iis7.5

I was able to load everything without too much difficulty and got modx to show no errors, though I am nervous that in getting it right I may have set certain permissions too low and am vulnerable to attack but thats not why I am here. I am getting an error when I try to create a new document. I fill out a few fields and click save and then get the error "An error occurred while trying to save the resource." I created a new user so I think the database is working. I am going for a simple blank page with a username and password field that would selectively load up different index pages to different people and store all my file names in the database and serve them up based on user permissions.

I can’t get past this first part and am anxious to run through a few tutorials.

See if there is anything in the MODx error log (under Reports in the Top Menu).

The install failed to create the table that holds all resources. It’s likely because your DB is using innodb instead of myisam.

I think that may be fixed in MODx 2.0.7, but I’m not sure: http://modxcms.com/download/

I wiped out the 2.0.6 and installed 2.0.7 but got this failure message about the DB

I’m going to try to repair my mysql install and see if that does anything

I got 2.0.7 running and after a repair on mysql and a reboot it seems everything cleared and I am now talking to the database properly. Thanks for your help it is most appreciated.

Now I am ready to get down to business.

I’m looking to make a plain black home page with a login/password box that serves up different home pages based on username. will I need to install any add-ons?

Also can you tell me exactly what perms I should have on my root folder and the modx folders?

You’ll definitely want the Login package. Note that it comes with a bunch of useful snippets.

The permissions will depend on how your server is set up.

I was able to install the login package, this is awesomely smooth (huge THANKS to the creator). what user does modx use for the system? it is IUSR?
