MODx Evolution 1.0.0 installation problem

    I have installed MODx Evolution 1.0.0 a few times and each time the manager is missing the front page. I am getting this error in chrome.
    The webpage at http://jpt2/manager/index.php?a=17 might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
    Error 2 (net::ERR_FAILED): Unknown error.

    Firefox tells me this:
    The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

      Make sure the lines in your .htaccess file (in the site root) that enable compression are commented out. Or, you can simply add a line to the .htaccess file in the manager directory to disable the compression engine.
      php_flag zlib.output_compression Off
