Forgive me, I normally like to read and search more of a forum before I go posting, but I’m on a bit of a time crunch. We’ve been designing a new web site, and hope to launch it next month. I’ve played with modX (1.0 and 2.0-beta3) and I love it, but now I’m in a bit of a pickle. I have a due date of September 9th, but I have to have hundreds of pages of content entered by then, so I really should already have the CMS ready to go. I’ve been putting it off hoping that revolution would magically become available just in the nick of time, but I don’t think I can wait much longer.

Anyway, long question short: Should I install 2.0 beta and upgrade with new releases, install 1.0 and wait for the final 2.0 for a migration, or some third option?

With any luck I’ll be a frequenter of these forums in the near future, so be gentle. smiley

Of course, as I continue reading I see that someone beat me to the question: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,39151.0.html
I’d still appreciate any input you all have.

Red pill: Revolution addresses a lot of feature requests and is the future.
But it’s in beta stages and need testing - upgrading frequently.

096x/Evo is stable and what "we" still use for live sites in production.
This is the codebase that has been around for years and what the forums have
been dissecting into pieces for the full understanding of it.

If you are brave you go for the red pill.

Runs on Revolution ---> modxcms.com cool

Thanks, that confirmed most of my fears. smiley

So here’s a couple more questions:

If I choose 1.0, will I have a nice easy upgrade path when 2.0 appears for real?
I’m thinking about Blue Host, but I haven’t signed up yet, any suggestions?

An migration tool will be created for exactly this purpose...

            cheers/k

Bluehost has a great SimpleScripts install of MODx (Evolution). If you sign up through this link, the MODx Foundation gets a small piece of the action:

A migration tool is planned, but switching over isn’t all that difficult now unless the site is very huge and complicated. See this: http://bobsguides.com/migrating-revolution.html

Thanks all. That’s good news. I’ll go with 1.0 now and migrate when it’s time. I’ll also make sure to use that link to sign up, it’s the least I can do. I look forward to asking more questions while I’m setting up. smiley
