In both a FormIt and Register (ie Login) use, I’ve used hooks/postHooks that redirect the user elsewhere, which means that they’ve never ’strictly’ finished the Login / Register loop (if that’s the right phrase). Does this matter at all?

No, I do this often.
Just note any following hooks or validation wont be run, since the redirect stops the chain progress.
