I have a question about the core/packages directory, mine has all the transport zips for every version of all the packages I have installed to date (as well as the directories they well extracted to). Is it okay to purge all these files?
I’d say backup them up.. and remove them from the site.. see if it breaks
You will probably find they are needed for uninstall/remove operations, you should be good to purge back to the latest package versions you have, if you remove them all an uninstall or remove operation may fail and may not remove the package from the database or from the filesystem.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

They are needed for restoration. If you do not need to restore a specific package to any of the previous versions, feel free to remove those packages.
That said, we really need some kind of strategy for managing these previous versions of packages. If you have any ideas for this, we’d love to hear them.
