I’m really having a lot of fun working with modx rev.
Security is another issue, I find it very hard to understand.
Anyway I still managed to setup users that can only edit resources.
Now I want to give those users file access to two folders (downloads and images).
Somehow now they cannot see any files or folders at all.
Can somebody give me a hint how to give access to specif folders?

Take a look at the filemanager_path System Setting (but don’t change it).
To limit a user to a section of the file tree: create a filemanager_path User Setting (not a System Setting) set to the directory they should be able to see.
Since the setting only allows one path, you’ll have to put both downloads and images under the same directory (e.g. assets) and give the user access to the parent folder.
You may also have to add back some permissions you removed to the policy that affects the users’ Contect Access to the mgr context (e.g., file_tree, and the other file-related permissions).
