Blank log in and home pages after install

I sucessfully installed MODx and the log-in (manager) page is blank. So is the homepage. The install showed all pages fine with green checks. It’s only after the successful install page, that I clicked on the log in link to find the page is blank. I am on a Windows server and had this problem during install (please see this post): http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,58871.0.html

Here are my system stats:

System: Windows NT WIZARDHOST1 5.2 build 3790 (Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2) i586
PHP Version 5.3.4
My SQL: Client API version mysqlnd 5.0.7-dev - 091210 - $Revision: 304625
Running: MODx 2.0.6-pl

I have met these php requirements (per system requirements in Wiki):
•safe_mode off
•register_globals off
•magic_quotes_gpc off
•PHP memory_limit 24MB or more, depending on your server

Wha could be wrong? Any ideas?

Check your configured php error_log file.

Is this, "core/cache/logs/error.log" the error log I should be checking? Sorry for the dumb question, I just want to check the right file to find the php errors.

Maybe, but if it is empty it could be recorded in the one configured for PHP directly in your php.ini

The log has 2,333 lines so I decided to shorten it a little. Here are the last few lines:

It means the install failed to create the tables. You likely need to start fresh and try again.

Same thing happened again; I keep getting a blank log-in page. During installation I am getting green lights that the tables are being created. But the php error logs show differently. I noticed that my ability to change folder and file permissions is currently being blocked (I am looking into this). Do you think that lower permissions and me not having the ability to set them could be the problem?

Did you FTP the files by chance? If so, it is very possible something got corrupted in the transfer or didn’t transfer at all; a very common occurrence. I can’t see anything else obviously wrong here.

The first time I unzipped all files and then uploaded via Filezilla (ftp). It was recommended after install did not work, to clean out my database and re-upload all files again 9in case corrupted file). I did so using Filezilla again and I got the same installation problem. So twice I did this using ftp using unzipped files.

So yes, I used Filezilla to FTP (upload) all inzipped files twice. I was able to install the program twice with no errors during installation (all green checks), but still get a blank page (and blank manager page) after install.

My php error logs of course say no tables are created (but the install says they are). Last, my installation says that no: assets and assest/components were created (to create them and set permissions). But these have been on my server since the first time I installed the program. So I don’t know why install would tell me they don’t exist when I can see them in my file manager. The permissions are not set they are. xxx. So this was why I was thinking maybe the permissions may be the problem but i have no idea now.

If it is a permission issue, check these points

1) Double check that the folder "E:\HostingSpaces\thehawthorngrill\dev.thehawthorngrill.com\wwwroot\" allows permission proporgation across all subfolders and files, ensure the network service has read/write access

2) Check if the config file is created after the initial install, should be located in wwwroot\modx\core\config\ a file named config.inc.php. It should look something like this.

$database_type = 'mysql';
$database_server = 'domainname.hostprovider.com';
$database_user = 'dbusername';
$database_password = 'dbpassword';
$database_connection_charset = 'utf8';
$dbase = '`modxdatabase`';
$table_prefix = 'modx_';

There should be a few other variables relating to modx.
