Hi I want to ask before I install Modx revolution, My situation is I want to keep my old
website and use Modx to handle the E-commerce part of the website.
I just want to know is there a way to integrate Modx with my current html website without
having to recreate it from the ground up? I have no coding experience and limited html knowledge.

    thank you,
    David

Changing an existing site over is easier in MODx than in most CMS’s; however, like any task involving the use of HTML, PHP, and databases, it does take a fair level of technicial knowledge.

As far as using MODx to handle just the ecommerce part of your site, I don’t recommend this because the one area in which MODx lags other CMS’s is - you guessed it - ecommerce. This is changing with a promising new package that is being developed called VisionCart, but at the moment with Revo, the only option as far as I know is FoxyCart. This seems to be a good package but costs $20 a month. Additionally, properly integrating any kind of addon component into MODx tends to require a reasonable level of technical expertise.

Depending on your exact needs, you might do better to use a more intuitive ecommerce solution such as Shopify, for example (not recommending that as I have never used it).

I am the last person to recommend against MODx; on other forums I have it in my sig and tend to plump for it constantly smiley - however, from what you are saying, it sounds to me like you may want to defer your entry into MODx for a more suitable project, and until your technical skills have evolved somewhat.

      Hope this help.

Thank you for your honest assessment smiley yeah I heard foxy cart is the best modx add-on shopping solution,
But I heard reviews from http://www.ecwid.com/ shopping cart solution which is free,
and apparently works alright with Modx from reading peoples reviews on these forums. But I think you’re right I should hold off on Modx, quick question what about Modx for blogging?

Someone who blogs seriously with MODx could answer this question better than I. I have deployed a couple of corporate-style blogs and found that it is pretty much as easy as implementing any other kind of snippet set with MODx. However, if today I decided to start a blog, I myself would not use MODx for that site because I don’t think there’s any point in reinventing the wheel. Wordpress, for example, does a fine job of setting you up with a fully capable blog almost effortlessly - provided you can live with one of the many pre-made templates.

BTW, Ecwid looks most interesting - thanks for putting me on to that.

Yes Ecwid is relatively new, and it integrates Google Checkout and PayPal as option payments seamlessly, the free version is good enough for any company to use and would cover most industries, not to mention the free version already has inventory control, an automatic invoice generator and a bunch of other features. One client sells ebooks and he uses Ecwid to sell them, so the customer pays and is automatically emailed a download link that you as the administrator can customize in different ways like ex: 2 downloads limit and then it expires or available for 24 hours or 5 downloads and available for 48 hours (you customize whatever fits you). But that requires a premium membership its like $17/mo. I already tested it out on Tumblr and Facebook it integrates perfectly without a single problem. So imagine how many other sites it can be integrated into. Although the design customization is a little bit limited, it allows for css customization so you can kind of disguise it on your own website.

Pretty useful shopping cart cant wait for it to evolve a little more.

and thanks for your feedback, I think I’ll just try to integrate Tumblr onto the site much easier I guess.
