    Hi,

I am a developer and new to moDx. I downloaded and installed the modx revolution 2.0 on my local server running mysql 5.1.37 and php 5.3 without errors. I tried to make my first template however it seems that in trying to implement the Variable tags [*content*] and previewing a document resource the page doesn’t display its content. I do however see its variable tag. Please explain as I thought this framework and its implementation was as simple as it stated.

(sorry for posting twice but i realised i had it in the wrong topic area)

And to head off future problems: http://bobsguides.com/revolution-tags.html.

            Welcome to MODx. smiley

BTW, the docs are not actually outdated. MODx Evolution uses the old tag syntax, MODx Revolution uses the new tag syntax. You just need to keep an eye on which version the docs are for (and the version should probably be displayed more prominently to make this easier).

also, the [[*content]] tag does not have to be added to a Resource/document
the are that appears in the doc for content, IS the [[*content]] TV...
all other TVs, you need to create, attach to one or more templates and
fill it up for each document... have fun!!

Possibly because [[*content]] is not a TV. It’s a resource tag, showing a resource field (one of many -- pagetitle, longtitle, createdon, published, etc.). They are often referred to as TVs even in old MODx documentation, but it’s incorrrect to call them that. Each one is a column in the modx_site_content table.

TV’s are custom fields that you add yourself. They’re displayed with the same kind of tag, but they are stored in a different table and are not content fields.

I think what Charliez was referring to is that the [[*content]] tag usually goes in a template. If you put it in the Resource Content field, the tag will include itself recursively and you’ll get the content field multiple times.
