I’m working on a video rental site and would like to have the movie listings entered under their appropriate parents (action, drama, comedy, etc.) and then have the ability to assign selected titles within those parents to appear in a New Release parent. Anyone have any advice how to achieve this?

You can do it with weblinks, but it’s fairly inefficient and probably not a good idea for a site that will have many videos to rent. You could also do it with a Template Variable rendered as a bunch of checkboxes -- one for each genre -- and use getResources to display the list(s).

The best way, IMO, is custom DB tables -- one with the videos, one with the categories, and one intersect table where each row contains the ID of a video and the ID of a category. This is a lot more work up front, but much faster and more efficient in the long run.
