    Hello,

I am trying to install MODx Evolution 1.0.4 on a server but can’t get past the "Pre-install validation" page due to a database connection message.

    Server info from phpinfo:
    Linux 2.6.18-194.11.4.el5 #1 SMP Tue Sep 21 05:04:09 EDT 2010 x86_64
    mysql - Client API version - 5.0.91
    SERVER_SOFTWARE - Apache/2.2.16 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.16 OpenSSL/0.9.8e-fips-rhel5 mod_bwlimited/1.4

I can succesfully test the connections on the "Database Information page".

On clicking "Test database server connection and view collations.", I see green "Connection to host: passed - collations now available"

On clicking "Create or test selection of your database.", I see green "Checking database: passed - database selected"

But on the "Pre-install validation" page, I get the error message in red: "Creating connection to the database: Database connection failed!"

I am unsure why it is not working.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

Turns out the password I chose for the database user was the cause of the problem.

The password was 20 characters long with a combination of letters, numbers and symbols.

I changed the length of the password and it installed aok.

      All fixed now.
