    Hi, guys.

I’ve been using ModX sine 0.9.6 but I never really had to go deeper than some basic web design and some plugins.

On to the problem, I’m trying to transfer my domain to a new server (from Shared Hosting with CPanel to a VPS with Kloxo).

I searched for instructions and the best that I found is this ( http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Moving_Site_To_Another_Location) which seems out-of-date unless you count the base url update at the top.

    Here’s what I did:

    1. Transfer the files from the old server to the new one. (Also made sure that .htaccess is copied.)
    2. Update the config.inc.php to match the details of the database on the new server.
    3. Import the database sql file to the new database. (I’m not sure how important it is but I did make sure that the collation are the same. In my case, latin_swedish_ci)
    4. Re-run setup > Upgrade.

After the upgrade, I get a blank homepage.

I can access the manager and it shows all the articles but when I click on the article, I get a blank page. All the Elements are there and I can click the files and edit them.

The File Manager displays the folder (Components, Images and Templates) but all the files that used to be there are inaccessible.

I’m pretty sure I have messed in one or more of the steps. Please shed light to any of them.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Neil

      Update:

I got the pages to work. Looking through the Error Logs I found out that the plugins were all causing the errors. So I removed them all and reinstall. It did the trick.

      One more issue:

      1. Where did all the files under the "Assets" folder go? I know it’s somewhere in the site (probably, hidden) as I can’t even see them through FTP (both in the old and new servers). I read somewhere it’s about apache GID (not sure with the term) and FTP differences.

      Any thoughts?

      Thanks.

Seems like noone knows or care.

Anyway, I did solve the problem.

It’s not so much that no-one cares, it’s that it can vary wildly depending on server configuration. It’s often an exercise in futility to try to guess something like that blindly from a distance.

So share how you solved the problem in your particular situation; it may help someone else who finds themselves with the same problem.

Sorry about that rant, Susan. I was just disappointed (a bit).

Anyhow, I solved the problem by manually copying all the files. Then upload them to the server.
