I’m sure there must be a way of controlling this, but I’ve not been able to find it...

When I create a new resource within my MODx install, the "Show in Menu" flag is set by default. Is there a way in which I can make this "off" as the default instead?

Reason: My users will be adding blog entries, which I don’t want appearing in the wayfinder menus, but unless I define exception rules within the wayfinder calls, I’m dependent on users remembering to take the tick out of the box.

    Could anyone advise?
    Many thanks smiley

      Hi Bishop,
Good old training would be the first answer, of course. Clients editing content is generally pretty wacky.

That’s a good question, though. The simple answer is that I don’t think there is one.

I suppose that someone could write a short plugin that would untick that box on one of the "document save" type of events.

Let’s say you have a folder named "Blog", and the posts are under there, just like a stock MODx 1 set-up. You can just set your Wayfinder level to be only 1. But then of course that may hide things under other branches.

Here’s something that you could try.... you could put a folder under "Blog", mark it not to show in the menu, and then reset your blog Ditto calls to put all your blog posts there. For instance, your "Blog" root’s Ditto call could have a &startID of the subfolder.

You’d also need to adjust calls made by your "Add a blog entry" doc if you have one - it would be then be pointing at a different root. Ditto is very rewarding, but always tricky.

This way, Wayfinder would ignore your blog subfolder and anything under it, but when you go to the "Blog", you see the entries there.

      Hope that helps, Dave

        Hey bishopsteignton!

That’s easly done by using Form Customization. No plugin is needed here.

        Have a look at http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Customizing+the+Manager

Thanks for the suggestions - I may try to add some rules to my wayfinder calls to make sure the pages I don’t want in the menus don’t appear.

I’m using Evo rather than Revo, so possibly ManagerManager might be able to help with this (but I don’t want to hide the field!).

Among the fields you can set defaults for in ManagerManger is hide_menu, according to the documentation in plugins/managermanager/docs/fields.htm

All sorted - used ManagerManager and the hide_menu function.

Thank you all for your guidance
