    Hello,

I am using Revolution for the first time but I have moderate experience with earlier versions or what used to be MODx Evolution. I’m getting tripped up on some basic newbie stuff, hoping someone can give me a quick pointer or two to get me up and running:

    • My content is not showing on the page: [*content*] is showing up instead.
Instead of the site name and page title showing up in the browser bar, I get: [(site_name)] and [*pagetitle*]
I’m having trouble installing TinyMCE text editor (screenshot attached) - I get a bunch a long red error message (I have TinyMCE - the zip and unzipped files) in core/packages

    Thank you!
    - Jess

The tags are different. [[*content]] for example. Check the documentation for the full list of tags.

This might answer most of your questions:

For TinyMCE, did you install from the package manager, or did you manually upload to that directory?

Great thank you, new Tag Syntax worked.

As far as TinyMCE - I uploaded both the zipped and unzipped version of the TinyMCE download to the core/packages directory, then attempted to install via the Package Manager. Then I got the errors.

You might try deleting both the unzipped and zipped versions, and installing the whole thing directly from the package manager. Just navigate to the package manager (system->package management) and click "Add New Package". Select the modxcms.com provider, then just do a search for "tinymce". From there you should be able to download and install without having to upload or unzip anything.

If you could attach the actual errors being presented instead of a screenshot of the first part of it, we may be able to better diagnose the problem.

Ok sorry just getting around to trying to install and fix this again. I have a much shorter and more descriptive error message this time:

                Package found...now preparing to install.
Attempting to install package with signature: tinymce-4.1.0-rc1
Could not transfer package tinymce-4.1.0-rc1.transport.zip to /nfs/c02/h05/mnt/30351/domains/morriskitchen.com/html/core/packages/.
Could not open file for reading: tinymce-4.1.0-rc1.transport.zip?revolution_version=Revolution-2.0.2-pl
Could not install package with signature: tinymce-4.1.0-rc1
MODx could not download the file. You must enable allow_url_fopen, cURL or fsockopen to use remote transport packaging.

That pretty much is the problem; it seems like cURL and allow_url_fopen are not available in your environment.

Thanks. I derived that from the error statement but I don’t know how to fix it. I’m technical but not a programmer. Any advice?

If you are using XAMPP on your local machine, you can modify this file:
                      xampp\apache\bin\php.ini
Uncomment this line (remove the semicolon) to enable cURL:
                      ;extension=php_curl.dll

If you’re on a shared hosting service, you’ll probably had to ask the host to enable cURL.
