Hello, I am really new to MODx. Our company acquired a website that was built on this platform and we are having many problems getting it setup on our host with the existing files and databases. Every time we clear one error, another comes along. Below is the latest error we have and I just don’t have any idea where to begin to track it down. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
« MODx Parse Error »
MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:
« `` is not numeric and may not be passed to makeUrl() »
Parser timing
MySQL: 0.0127 s (3 Requests)
PHP: 0.9881 s
Total: 1.0008 s
I’ve seen this with things like Wayfinder and Ultimate parent, the start id or top id is not being parsed into an integer, so [~id~] for instance doesn’t resolve to 1 etc. Check the syntax of your snippet calls.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!
I looked over that document and still have some questions. We basically copied all the site files and were given the sql database files from the existing host and just transferred them and uploaded them as is to our server. Is there some kind of environment variable that we’re missing when transferring from one server to another. Will a straight copy from one server to the other work for the site files and databases?
You’ll need to "Import" the .SQL file from the old site into a MySQL database using PhpMyAdmin. You may need to create an empty database first to Import it into.
You’ll probably also need to edit the config file to set the DB name and DB user/password.
The odds are the your using some version of MODx Evolution. That config file is at manager/includes/config.inc.php. Make sure that file is writable for the install.
Once that’s done (and all the files are in place) you should do an upgrade install -- just point your browser to:
newsite.com/install (for MODx Evolution versions)
or
newsite.com/setup (for Revolution -- this is unlikely)
If one of the above gets a "page not found," just try the other one.
Don’t proceed if "New installation" is checked.
Be sure *not* to install the sample site and uncheck all the addons.
If the links in the menus in the front end of the site don’t work, check the rewrite base line in .htaccess.
Let us know if you run into trouble.
