Hi there.
short intro:
I just finished to port our full flash movie site (yes I know) with the impressive help of my new friend wowenkho from www.wowenkho.com who did the menu part to match our (self coded) flash menu with mootools. What I did is just setup a page with modx calling wayfinder an he then injected the javascript to deal with the created menu so it behaves as we had it before. on our request he then also did something with browsers history entries I think so the back-button of the browser will function again (it does with certain exceptions, off topic).
we are mainly architects/3d-designers and no web developpers, but are intersted enough to do such things by ourselves, so please excuse me for not beeing a professional on that field.
website: www.[our domain].com (edit: removed direct link)
current version: MODx Revolution 2.0.0-pl rev7212 (to be updated to 2.02)
ok the problem:
if I do a quick google search "[our domain]" I’ll find a page that a relict from our old setup (something like an alternative page for non-flash users and bots):
www.[our domain]/all_images/images.html
I know that this link will be removed sometime but it’s just an example for any broken link... so when you hit it the page will not function the right anymore: it somehow puts the "all_images/images.html" in between the domain name and the url that will come after it after a fresh site start. a click on another link will not help you then, the content will not be rendered.. so the only solution for the user would be to clean up the adress line to the root and reload the page.
I am not sure how I should deal with that. such a link should just redirect the user to www.[our domain]. we don’t need a page which says it is redirecting.
my .htaccess entries that are not outcommented:
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.[our domain]\.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.[our domain]/$1 [R=301,L]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]
The javascript shoud not be the problem, as if I deactivate it temorarily the problem remains.
Any suggestions?
EDIT: the problem is solved now. there was no 404 page configured in modx...
thanks, that worked somehow. however it leaves a "?q=all_images/images.html" in between the url then. I don’t know how but I meant to do this for all broken links. on your page if I just type some crap behind your domain a page will tell me that there is no such page. why am I able to write anything in the adress of our page and there is no 404 or something?
strange is:
http://www.[our domain]/thisisdead WORKS
http://www.[our domain]/thisisdead.html WORKS
http://www.[our domain]/thisisdead/thisisdead.html DOES NOT WORK
with "WORKS" I mean the page will work except there is the clutter in the adress bar.
Hi the mod rewrite can be complex and I am sure you should be able to do it for this rule.
However I m not sure how, perhaps one of the guru s here can help you refine it.
so..
any gurus out there who can help me?
Try on IRC, details on the homepage I think.
