    OK,

    I’m brand new to CMS
I’ve downloaded MODx Revolution through Simplescripts (because I’ve got bluehost webhosting).

I now I need to start downloading stuff,
    starting with FCKEditor.

    I’ve just downloaded and unzipped
    http://modxcms.com/extras/package/?package=143

but how do I "Upload the corresponding files to the root of your MODx site. Run the installer (http://www.yoursite.com/install/). Select FCKEditor from the list of editors in the MODx configuration (System Configuration / Interface & Editor Settings)."

This is where I got stuck and really frustrated, how do i upload? and which corresponding files? and where is the root?
After reading at the filenames it seems that i need to upload ...all of them?
how do i do that? The MODXCMS (www.mydomain.com/manager) only lets me upload one at a time!, thats gonna take ages.

Do I need to do this via an FTP uploader, ie should i upload all of these files using Dreamweaver?

    Where is the root folder?

    The instructions are very vague!

      Oh good news
I’ve managed to do it all!

I used the file manager of my web hosting to upload the zip file, and then it used the "extract" feature, it turned out to be pretty easy.

      But now I got a new problem;
      I went to www.mydomain.com.au/install
      and followed the prompts,

      and now it says;

      "Pre-install validation

Setup has carried out a number of checks to see if everything’s ready to start the setup.

Creating connection to the database: Database connection failed!

Please check the database login details and try again.
      Database could not be selected!

Please check the database permissions for the specified user and try again.

Unfortunately, Setup cannot continue at the moment, due to the above 2 errors. Please correct the errors, and try again. If you need help figuring out how to fix the problems, visit the Operation MODx Forums. "
      – help please.

      (I’m using MODx Revolution 2.0.0-pl)

I have never used Simplescripts so my answer might not be spot on. But the first thing to ask is this, have you created a database and added a user with all privileges to it? MODx stores it’s data in a database so you will need to create one.

          Hi,

I see two possible problems here:

1- you might be trying to install modx ’over’ Simplescripts installation of modx on your site (usually host providers have this tools that automate installation of software)
Check if you have modx installed already, and check for the modx database.

2- if you are installing packages: modx Revo can download and install any package in their repository without you having to download/upload to host etc...
Just go to Sistem->Package Manager, do a search for your desired packages and get them.

          Hope it helps.

Did you have Revolution Installed not just downloaded before you started with FCKEditor?

By the way FCKEditor is not available for Revolution. TinyMCE is the RTE for Revolution at present.

By the sound of things you either did not install Revolution or you did not delete the install directory.

I think @einsteinsboi is correct if you did not do the installation before downloading FCKEditor.

I suggest you try her site:-

She Explains it much better than I can.

MODx is not a plug and play system.

But is great when you have it working.

Welcome to MODx hope you find it worth the time and effort.
