By emptying the trash to purge deleted items permanently, much of my website’s content appears to have been removed. All of the files and documents are listed and accessible within the ModX framework, but looking at the website within the browser, a simple "sorry, the object was not found" message appears.
It also tells me that there is a parse error:
« MODx Parse Error »
MODx encountered the following error while attempting to parse the requested resource:

I’m using MODx 0.9.6, viewing in Internet Explorer.
Is there any way of undo-ing the permanent delete? I’m assuming not... Are there any other ways of restoring/making visible these files? I would be grateful for any/all suggestions. Thank you.
If you can see the resources in the Manager, they still exist in the database. It’s unlikely that purging caused your problem. Have you changed anything else lately (e.g., changing the template, adding a plugin, modifying a snippet)?
Thanks for this - that’s put my mind somewhat at ease. I’ve been told that the issue is with the website’s templates, but there weren’t other changes made to it which negatively affected it prior to the purge. I suspect that at some point something has been deleted which was necessary to the site’s running, and that this was permanently removed. As you might suspect, I’m not exactly au fait with ModX, so I can’t be much more specific. Thanks for your help - we’ve called in a professional to take a look, so fingers crossed it should be rectified swiftly.
I’m assuming that you didn’t change any permissions or create any Manager User Groups -- that would be the best bet for a cause of your problem if you did. If you messed with that a while ago, the problem wouldn’t show up until the site cache was cleared, which would probably occur when you purged the tree.
If that’s not a possibility, here are a few things to try.
Before doing anything (or letting anyone touch the site), I’d go into PhpMyAdmin and export the modx_site_content table to a file. Then do a complete export of the whole database to another file.
Then, try these -- checking after each one to see it the docs are back.
Clear the site cache, then log out and clear your browser cache and cookies.
Try logging in with another browser.
Make sure that the file: manager/includes/config.inc.php has no space before the <?php tag at the beginning or after the ?> tag at the end.
Re-upload the install directory and run install in upgrade mode. (Important: uncheck all the options to install things -- especially the sample site.)
