I have an idea about what encodings are and how they work, but I’ve never fully groked it...

The problem is simple: on various pages in the manager, I get those little question marks coming through because the browser doesn’t know how to interpret a particular character, e.g. "1/2". It’s in the database ok, but it doesn’t come out correctly. The database encoding is UTF-8. The content encoding in the system settings is UTF-8. What gives? What can I change to make those go away?

    Thanks for any advice.

If the lexicon are not encoded in UTF-8 it can cause issue with encoding.

There are several french lexiconentries who show question mark.

My lexicon is also using UTF-8.... I noticed that the problem disappeared as soon as I moved the site onto the production server. I’m not sure why. On both dev and on prod, the UTF-8 headers were being sent (I checked using FireFox’s Developer Toolkit plugin).
