Survey once per visit

Hi all
I have built a survey in asp classic and it is all working fine. What I need help with now is the restricting to the amount of times the survey will appear. Ideally I would like it to pop up each browser session but not every time a user goes to the same page. I have done something similar using the global.asa and again with cookies before but these methods don’t seem to work with modx. Has anyone done this before?

Cookies work fine in MODx.

Yes, cookies work for a lot of things but when i tried to store one to say the user has already selected yes or no on the survey. it makes no difference, the survey will open regardless.
