I upload items via the file manager. Works alright, but the items don’t show on the webserver.
Are they stored in the database??

Are you sure they really are uploaded via the file manager?
Can you navigate to them via a browser?
as they were accessible via the webbrowser I found that I had a mirror directory "assets" on the webserver - in wrong place...
