I was in the middle of developing a new MODx project (Evo 1.0.4) on my MacBook Pro laptop (using MAMP 1.09) when my 8-month-old Basneji puppy knocked a glass of beer onto the keyboard! Yikes. I cleaned it up as best I could and had the laptop checked at the Apple Store. The logic board is OK but the keyboard does not work. The MacBook might have corrosion issues down the road as well.

I did have a Firewire drive backing up the MacBook using the automated Apple Time Machine feature. I would like to move this whole project over to my desktop Mac that also has MAMP 1.09 installed. Obviously moving the root folder into the MAMP htdocs folder on the desktop is a simple task. But what do I need to do to get MacBook database file to work on the new location for this project on the desktop Mac computer?

    Thanks!

    PS: anyone want a Basenji???

You should be able to just move the whole MAMP folder over. The database is just an engine to work with a set of files. If the files are in place, including the mysql meta data and use database, it should just work.

That said, I got a whole cup of sweetened tea dumped on my iBook a couple of years ago; I quickly pulled out the battery and rinsed the whole computer off in clear water (it was already soaked, so what could it hurt?), then let it sit for a few days before putting the battery back in. Fired right up and still works like a champ.

With the new machines with their locked-in battery, I don’t know how one could completely kill all power to a machine. When I get a new one I’ll have to be more careful.

(did you get pictures for your puppy’s website?)

I copied that container root folder for the project site from the Time Machine drive into the desktop MAMP htdocs folder.

I get a ton of MODx parse errors but basically it looks like MODx is failing to connect to the database?

I think you need the whole MAMP folder as sotwell said. the database stuff is stored within MAMP files, not your site. I believe.

OK, that worked. Than you both!

I already had a MAMP install on the desktop computer. To test this I renamed the MAMP folder on the desktop computer to MAMP_XXX and then copied the entire MAMP folder from the Time Machine drive (backup from the beer soaked MacBook) and the MODx sites I was working on seem to work OK.

PS: The Seattle Apple Store Genius Bar has this new cool diagnostics system: they plug a ethernet cable into your ailing Mac and it boots from a server based OS. From there they have a new crazy diagnostics testing system that goes through everything. Tests showed that my MacBook runs OK. The concern is that there maybe corrosion on some circuit will cause issues down the road. I opened the whole MacBook and cleaned any beer evidence with medical alcohol swabs. I have the fancy screw driver tools required to open Apple laptops from doing several hard drive swaps on previous machines. The keyboard on my MacBook is not working: pressing any key does nothing but the low light backlight sensors are working. I ordered a new keyboard from some outfit that sells them on eBay for $45. Will see if this does the trick or not.

              Susan,

What you did, waiting days before testing your machine after a liquid spill, is the best thing to do. If there is any moisture inside the machine then turing it on is what does the real damage...

Where did you get the macbook pro tools?

I may need those one of these days. Are they really special or just a bunch of really small screwdrivers?

You need a Phillips #00 screwdriver and a T6 Torx screwdriver...

The database files themselves are all in the MAMP/db/mysql folder; one folder in there for each database, plus you need the mysql folder for permissions and such.

I’ll be needing the tiny little torx screwdriver to remove the cover from this baby when I get my new one; I’m going to pimp the cover with MODx colors and a MODx logo. It will be my travel machine.

Cool! Post some pics when you complete this "alteration"...
