    Hi guys,

What was the purpose of Evolution again? I just installed the release candidate 1 and it is almost exactly the same as the current GA. Am I missing something here?

Well...it looks similar but it is not the same. A lot of work went into making it slimmer and better ’under the hood’. Also there have been some naming changes to bring its terminology closer to Revolution’s. There are some cool modal error messages (try to name a resource with an existing name) and other improvements...even the cache has been tweaked. And it is the launch of the re-branding (and has a new installer). It is also the mark of MODx reaching 1.0 (not that 0.9.x was not release ready...but 1.0 is a new beginning). It also reaffirms the development teams commitment to maintaining Evo even while Revo is so close to being released.

To me this is the most significant release of MODx (Evo branch) so far grin

          Thanks for the clarifications.

I really liked the install process and I will test drive the manager tonight. You guys are doing a fabulous job. Keep up!

            And to further Shane’s remarks:

            • Tons of bug fixes.
            • Non-English and multi-language friendly alias support for URLs. This is huge for non-English SEO efforts.
            • Speaking of non-english languages, all RTL languages will work with every Manager theme. No RTL-specific themes required.
            • Additional languages distributed out of the box.
            • Manager will be simpler to customize with each field row getting unique IDs. This is great for ManagerManager. deferred to post Evo 1.0 release for quality concerns and to ensure ManagerManager works seamlessly
            • All the ancient JS libraries have been scrubbed and updated to a single JS library for the Manager (Mootools). This will be updated in a later Evo release to the latest version of Mootools, but it’s all coming from a single location now.
            • Custom Manager help pages and login/welcome page overrides moved out of the Manager directory and into the assets folders. This makes upgrading easier since you’re moving fewer files around.
            • New, much improved date picker (Mootools-based).

Evo is going to be around for a long time. There’s simply far too many sites floating around that are built on our classic code base and it’s what the community deserves.

              Great!

Is it safe to upgrade all existing .9.3 installs to evo then?

                It certainly should be.

Lol, I was too lazy opening a new thread.

Sorry, back to Revolution, where were we again?
