That sounds to me like you’re actually using Revolution. The only difference between Evolution and the outdated documentation is that Resources -> Manage Resources is now Elements -> Manage Elements. Other than that, it’s the same.
I am using modx-1.0.4. I found it under Manage Elements. I want to place a block of text and a listing of 12 links in the footer area and I was told the best way was to create a Template Variable. Trying to figure that out now.
I am not sure where I can place the html code for the footer info that I need to insert.
Would it be easier to just cut and paste the code for the footer into the area below in the html template file?
<div id="footer">
<p> <a href="http://" title="Ajax CMS and PHP Application Framework">Powered
by MODx</a> <a href="http:///" title="Template Designed by ">Web Site © 2010
</a>
MySQL: [^qt^], [^q^] request(s), PHP: [^p^], total: [^t^], document retrieved
from [^s^]. </p>
</div>
<!-- end footer -->

If the footer content will be the same on all pages, you can either put it directly in the template, or use a chunk, and put the chunk tags {{footer}} in your template.
Template variables are useful for blocks or pieces of content that will vary from page to page. Default content is put in the "Default Value" field of the TV. Then all pages using the template the TV is assigned to will have that default content, but this can be edited for each page as desired. You can put @INHERIT as the default content, then edit the TV for parent pages and the children will inherit the parent’s value.
