Component development in netbeans

Hello guys,

I’ve been playing with modx revo for a couple months now just creating content.

Now I want to get into component development, but i’m stuck. I searched the forum, and online and none of the posts/links were useful or clear.

I’d like to know how should i set up the netbeans project/environment to create and try the component.
For this i’d like to use the API; and i know i have to use this code:

require_once ’d:\\xampp\\htdocs\\test\\config.core.php’;
require_once MODX_CORE_PATH.’config\\’.MODX_CONFIG_KEY.’.inc.php’;
require_once MODX_CORE_PATH.’model\\modx\\modx.class.php’;
$modx = new modX();
$modx->initialize(’web’);

but where should i put it;

I found the post for creating the package after i have the component, but i’m still missing the previous step.

I’m assuming that you’re trying to create a transport package for your component (you don’t need any of that code to create the component itself). In that case the lines of code would go in the build.transport.php file used to create the package.

Look at the Doodles component, which is a demo of Extra creation in Revo:

Hi, nope I’m not trying to build a transport pkg... the post explaining that is good.
I’m trying to start creating the ’extra’ that will go in the transport pkg...

You don’t have to do anything special; just write a Snippet and put it into the manager. NetBeans isn’t necessarily involved in this at all, nor is the code you posted.

Now, if you want to manage development on the filesystem (and maybe track in Git or SVN), then follow these tutorials and you’ll be able to execute them as you develop them on the filesystem.

Hi Shaun

One of the links I read was the Doodles one... and viewed your webcast too...
but there were several files that just ’were there’ when you started and (at least for me) the video was a bit high level.
But it’ll help after i smash my brain a bit with some modx APIs...

What I want to do is the second, develop outside modx, and have svn for version control without the modx code in there...
I know the code i posted is used for ’external developing’.
The tutorials you are refering are the ones Shaun posted, right?

does anyone has an experience that the latest netbeans (6.9) is a little bit unstable?

My code is over 2900 lines, and when I tried to format the source, it just went error.

I haven’t tried the latest goldsky, but there are times I definitely switch back to TextMate out of frustration.

At last I found this formatting error trigger:
DO NOT put a commenting symbol ( //, # ) at the last line of the file or as enclosing comment.
Netbeans will break.
