Searched for assistance on this but did not find definitive directions/advice. We have a non-MODx website running on domain.com and have a development site ready to become the new website on develop.domain.com.
There are a number of linked files and unique page links that must remain on from the current domain.com so pointing the public domain.com to the installation folder of develop.domain.com is not an option.
What steps should I take to move the site? Should I do a fresh install in the root folder and then copy the images I need or is it possible to copy everything from the development directory into the root? My concern if doing a fresh install is the time it takes to create the snippet folders and files.
Thanks in advance for the feedback.

You can copy everything from the subdirectory to the root. You will need to edit the Configuration and change the settings for the paths in the File Manager tab and the Interface and Features tab. You should clear the cache and make sure to log out of the Manager (and maybe even manually clear your browser cache and cookies) first. If you were using Friendly URLs (with the .htaccess file) you’ll also need to modify the RewriteBase entry in the .htaccess file by removing the subdirectory from the path.
Just be aware that any index.php or index.html files from the previous site can’t be used any more, as MODx needs to be able to use its own index.php.
See this:
http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/Evo1/Moving+Site
In .htaccess
before
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /exanple
...
After
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
...
Put new .htaccess in old folder (old to new destination) and google webmaster tools update
Thanks Susan, I do appreciate the quick feedback.
The replaced site has many long-time links floating between sales channel partners and industry references. I plan to add meta-refresh tags pointed at the appropriate new content for these links rather than sending them to a 404 page.
Wish there was another option but this is the best idea I had. If anyone has experience with this and a better idea I am definitely open.

That’s probably the best way to deal with it. Major site updates are always a major pain.
