    Hi !
I need some help to move my modx site. (I knew it seemed to easy to work ...)
I did all the steps from this tutorial :
    http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/MODx096/Moving+Site

    But when it’s time to log into the manager (step 7), I enter my password and get a 404 error;

Does anyone have any idea of the kind of mistakes people usually do when moving a modx site?

(The only access path I’ve modified for the DB is in config.inc.php)

    thanks

      Hi,
Unfortunately, that information is non-specific, so it’s tough to give a good answer. For instance, we don’t know if the root of your site works, and if so, do any regular links work.

Since you’re getting a 404, my first guess would be that your HTACCESS isn’t right (or maybe is missing?), but it could be lots of things.

Also, I know that when I move from one host to another, I nearly never get to use the same database name, so that’s a possible problem.

I have never seen that tut - it’s not that useful for me anyway, as I never develop locally with XAMPP, I always develop on a live server, albeit out of public view while developing.

You might try uploading the original install folder that ships with the MODx package and run it in Upgrade mode.

          Thanks for the answers.

My .htaccess works (I took it from a similar website which works).
About the root of site, it seems to work correctly because I can access images in the assets/ folder for example.

@Breezer : I just runed the install as you suggested. At the end, I’m redirected on the manager login page and when I log in, I get the same 404.

I’ll try to install directly modx on the server to see if it works(but I won’t have my templates and stuff…).
Even if this way works I don’t want to rewrite all my pages in the Modx manager .

There must be a better way to proceed.

Are you certain that you are connecting to the database? I have moved several sites and importing my old database seems to be the step I always forget. When I have done this I can see the manager page, but can’t login.

Thank you for all the suggestions , I finally solved this **** problem .

In fact, the error came from the Internet hosting service :

I’ll explain how I solved it (maybe it’ll be usefull for somebody else):

The thing is, I was working on a temporary site they gave me while the real one is still working. At the end their supposed to make the domains name transfer.

The temporary domains they give to their users (because the real domain is still used by the previous hosting service)didn’t worked for php pages! So of course I couldn’t log in Modx manager!
Even worse, the URL for php pages wasn’t understood by firefox which redirected me on 404 error pages owned by the previous hoster.

(The thing is firefox only understood the part of the temporary URL with the domain name and thought it was a good idea to redirect on it.)

I understood I needed to access the temporary site by the real domain name (and not the fake one which didn’t work)

So I made some local modification in windows:

              In C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
              I added

              « [IP] www.mydomain.fr
[IP] mydomain.fr » (without quotes of course)

Were “[IP]” is the temporary server which contain the temporary site andwww.mydomain.fr, the real name of my domain.

So, I can finally access this temporary site. I suppose when they’ll have transferred the domains, I’ll have to delete these 2 lines of the hosts file.

              End of the story

Thanks again for the ideas !
