I’m running 1.0.2 version of ModX...

I just found out you need to do to configuration to re-enable meta tag tab’t

However, I still can’t work out how to or where to add the verification meta tag that google’s webmaster tools provided me, so I can verify it’s indeed my own site...

    Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks

      Hi Aussy,
I don’t know if this will answer your question, but I routinely put Google Analytics code into MODx by putting it at or near the bottom of the template I’m using, and then you begin to see results after a day or so. If you edit your homepage, for instance, and make note of the template being used, then you can go edit the template and stick the analytics code there, typically just above the closing body tag at the bottom of the page.

I wonder if you’re maybe referring to a bit of HTML code that people stick in the root of their site for Google to "spider"? That would simply go into the root of your site via FTP, entirely independent of MODx.

For meta tags, as many have said elsewhere, you’re better off reading up on setting up TV’s or chunks to handle those than using MODx’s previous somewhat crude way of doing meta tags. That’s why the old meta method is disabled by default now.

      Good luck, Dave

        Thanks dave

Ofcourse it’s the ftp and not modx, haha silly me

Company that built my website, only just designed it, and only gave me the details for modx to edit, and I didn’t get any of the ftp details...

It’s like they designed it, and then completely forgot about the search engine optimisation / SEO side of things sad

        Anyway thanks again mate

          Aussy,
Cool! And it’s true, it’s rare that anybody is strong in every aspect of web development. And if they are, they’re probably getting killer pay rates. smiley I’m very much a generalist, and can handle an entire site from soup to nuts if needed, tying together all the elements. But for instance, I usually don’t do the design, someone hands it to me. And SEO is something I have some knowledge of, enough to do a decent job, but not like a hardcore SEO geek who does that all the time - I’ll admit that SEO is, um, important but I find it boring. smiley

          Cheers, Mate,

            Aussy,

What you are looking to do is put the google site verification code into your site head. I wouldn’t worry about the Meta Tab as it is not really going to help you.

What you need to do is go into your template and insert the code you copy and paste from MODx into template between the head tags. If you have multiple templates you only need to place it in the one you are using for your home/default page.

If you are using a chunk for your head you would change it there.

Let me know if this helps.

            Cheers,

            Jay
