I’ve set up a Javascript-based image gallery which will need editing / adding to from time to time. I’m just writing up the manual for the user, but I’m beginning to think that as things stand, getting her to learn to directly edit the chunk code, whilst easy enough for me, may be a cause for complaint- "You didn’t say it would be this difficult!" etc. etc. Even though it’s a matter of simply copying, pasting and editing a thumbnail and link, the code may serve to frighten.

Anyway I tried having a go myself but using TinyMCE, uploading the new thumbnail, large rollover image etc. into the chunk- it was messy and just didn’t work- in fact you could argue it was worse than editing directly.

Has anyone else had problems trying to find easy ways for users to edit things like this? In TinyMCE the gallery doesn’t even look like a galelry particularly, just a dozen images lumped together.

I just know that they’re going to be difficult about anything as "difficult" as copying / editing a thumbnail link directly, so was wondering if there’s a way of doing this that would be simple enough for them.

Jot is good for this sort of thing; you can embed the resource browser into the Jot form tpl as many times as you need. Have a dedicated page for this, then you can use the images wherever you want them by calling Jot with the id of the page with the form on it, no form or moderation and whatever kind of output tpl you need for your gallery javascript. I use a modified version of Jot that I call Notes that adds categories and positioning to the items, which works well with a drag-and-drop positioning function as well as filtering by (multiple) categories.

I’ve also been quite successful just uploading the main image file, then using the miniphoto snippet in the output tpl of both Ditto and WebLoginPE to make the thumbnails on-the-fly.

MaxiGallery with backend manager is perfect for this:

Thanks for the suggestions... I’ll take a look and see if either of these will do the job.
