Hello. I am new to MODx and have a question about a particular feature I need to develop.

The site I’m building contains photo galleries that are accessed via a parent container (a top-level resource called "Galleries"). The site does not have a set number of galleries -- the front-end user (a professional photographer) will add them as needed. Therefore, I need to provide a simple, programmatic way for this non-technical user to do this.

For each gallery, a simple chunk (called "GalChunk") containing an image, gallery name, and link to a sub-gallery, will be added to the parent container. These assets will be inserted into the GalChunk by the site owner using TVs. The sub-gallery is a second container with a Ditto call that returns thumbnails of each image in the gallery. The site owner will use TVs to build out the image pages beneath the sub-gallery, as well.

What I need to create is a method by which the site owner can add GalChunks to the parent container, as needed, without my involvement or any knowledge of MODx tags, etc. I’m not quite sure how to go about this because the concept is that an identical chunk possessing with identical TVs will be inserted multiple times into the same resource. Is this a feature that will require a custom script, or can this it be accomplished using the core and/or existing add-ons?

Thank you in advance of any ideas you have!

I would recommend that you check out MaxiGallery, as it does exactly what you want with a lot less hassle.
