Problem with File Manager and Resource browsers on shared hosting

I’ve deployed several MODx sites on different VPSs without any issues but the latest client insisted on using their shared hosting account, which turned out not to have SSH access. What a pain in the a...
So the site is finally deployed and working but i can’t get the File Manager and Image/File resource browsers to work. In the past i knew the exact linux path to the MODx root folder and that what i put into the Filemanager and Assets path, but with this shared account and the stupid Parallels control panel i don’t have the actual path, but only the path from the web server. Trying many permutations of the path still results in the file manager coming up with an "invalid path" message and the resource browsers coming up empty.

So the question is how to get file manager to work on a shared hosting account without the absolute linux path.

In the Manager, Reports -> System Info will display the actual physical path.
