I’d like to provide the ability for non-technical Web users to create and manage their own content categories in a manner similar to the way this is handled within Wordpress. Ideally, category creation and management would occur via a module, while assignment of categories to new or existing content (e.g. a blog post) would take place on each resource’s edit page.

Is there a plug-in, snippet, or other method that will facilitate this (I’ve searched but haven’t found anything)?

    Thank you

You could use a TV to allow users to type in their category, and have a snippet such as tagLister return the different categories in use.

You could also adjust the site tree structure to mimic categories - one container for each category.

Yes, using tagLister is the best solution I’ve come up with, too. It’s hardly elegant, though. What’s needed is a dynamic TV that populates values after being pointed at a particular variable. Very similar to tagLister, but one that offers the ability to manage (add, delete, modify) variables via a front-end interface.

This scenario seems to expose a serious limitation to MODx. I’m surprised at how wide and far the MODx claim to offer blogging has been cast -- it lacks fundamental functionality of real blog engines and management of certain types of content cannot be turned over to front-end users because of it.
