How to create dynamic tag & category archive pages like Wordpress?

I’ve read this: http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Tagged_blogging_with_Ditto and find it inflexible for my needs.

Anyone know how I can create a page that accepts query parameter to pass into a Ditto call?

The criteria is:

• Variable value must be dynamic: I don’t know what the tag or category will be
• Only one page for the Category/Tag archive. Since I can’t predict or control what category or tag will be selected to filter, the page needs to contain logic that adapts based on tag/category value

I suppose it’s my ignorance of MVC architecture that makes this surprisingly challenging.
