Hi everyone,
It’s been a while since I have used modx, so forgive me if my terms are a bit off. I am currently using "MODx Revolution 2.0.0-rc-2 rev692" (downloaded and installed fine yesterday).
I am having an issue with Package Management under the /manager area. I upload my packages into my site folder /core/packages and then search for local packages. This is when it constantly comes up with a blank search.
I am particularly trying to install the Discuss native forum package, which can’t be found via package management download service. Thinking that it might be that specific package that was the issue, I tried both manual and automatic (download via manager) installation of other packages. They constantly either come up as black searches, or report the error "package missing".
Am I uploading the packages in the right directory, and secondly what would be the cause for my inability to download packages via the package management manager area? If i search for a particular package, nothing is found. If I manage to find a package via the tree, I get the above state "package missing" error.
Any suggestions are much appreciated,
Thanks
Kat Skinner

Hi Kathleen, It’s because the Package Manager requires cURL. If, by chance, you are using XAMPP on your local machine, you can modify this file:
Uncomment this line (remove the semicolon) to enable cURL:
Welcome to Revolution.
@BobRay
I don’t believe that my server uses XAMPP. I sent an email to the company to confirm. Is there another way I could confirm this under cPanel?
Edit: If it helps, I have never had this issue with Modx In the past. I was previously using an older version of Revolution, one of the first beta/alpha releases, and before that Evolution. Its only since I got the latest Revolution release that I have had this issue...
If I can resolve this with revolution, it would be preferable compared to going to Evolution due to the native forum, and a few other features.
EDIT 2:
I just got word from my hosting company that the servers all fully support cURL. Is there another reason that package manager isn’t working. So far (with limited testing of this version) it is the only thing that I have found to NOT work.

I’m sorry that didn’t work. I was guessing that you were using XAMPP (which has cURL off by default) on your local machine. I also should have read your question more carefully. With cURL off, the repository you get to when you click on "add extras" is blank. I don’t think it has to do with the local search for packages. You are putting them in the right directory. Be sure they end in "transport.zip."
I don’t know why the Packabe Manager isn’t finding them, nor why the search isn’t working for you. I wonder if you might have a corrupted file in the install.
Do go to Reports > System Info > System Info tab > phpinfo() View. Verify that cURL is enabled.
What browser are you using, and have you tried any others?

@BobRay,
I think its a mixture of browser and mac...
I have tried on different browsers and modx generally just works a bit better in them. I was using a mixture of firefox and chrome before, so its odd I had issues in that sense. Is there a browser that is suggested use for Modx?
As for the mac, what I didn’t think of was that it automatically unzips files when it downloads. So the stuff I was manually uploading wasn’t in the "transport.zip" format. I redownloaded the files (again) and ensured it stayed in the right format, and this time it seemed to work perfectly (only tested for two of the issue files).
Thanks so much for the help. I was getting quite perplexed as to what to do; of course it would be the little things that I didn’t notice - always the little things... I am aiming to have my entire website (www.katskinner.com) up and running later this week and I didn’t want to find another CMS for a quick fix solution until I got this one resolved.
Thanks again for all the help!

It only unzips when it downloads if you have your browser configured to do so. I have all of the file types set to "always ask".
Glad you got it sorted. PM only looks for "transport.zip" files so that was definitely the problem. Chrome is faster, but not yet fully supported -- some of the tricks it pulls to speed up the JS don’t play nice with MODx. Either FF or Safari should be fine.
