We allready have 5 MODx (Evolutuion) sites. It looks like we will have at least 100 within one year, so I’m looking for a multi-site update solution.

I’m planning to build a PHP script that copies the new files to all the sites (quite easy to do). After that it will run the database queries in the install directory ( setup.sql & setup_data.sql ? ) for all the sites.

Will that work? Or did I forget something important?

Just a thought, Bluehost.com has SimpleScripts installs for both Revolution and Evolution. and, AFAIK, you can upgrade either one with a few clicks when a new version of MODx is released. The install works great -- a complete MODx install takes a few seconds. I assume that the ugrade would work the same way but have yet to use it.

MODx used to be a bluehost.com affiliate (I can’t find the link), so you can support MODx by going there too.

Unfortunately we have to host all sites on our own servers, since we are a hosting company. We allready support MODx financially (and will continue to do so), so there is no need to move to another host. smiley

I’m still looking for an easy multi-site upgrade path. First I thought that overwriting some files with new ones should be enough. But ofcourse I still need to run the installer to finalize the update. If I could run the installer without the need to click buttons in my browser, I could use wget or something like that. The upgrade path would become:
        - replace install folder with new version
        - run upgrade script
        - upgrade script overwrites current installations with new version
        - upgrade script runs installer in "no click/automatic update mode" for all sites
        - upgrade script removes install folder
        - upgrade scfipt performs additional actions (anybody?)

        Any help is appreciated!
