how do I install modules and themes?

I’m a complete newbie and am wanting to know how to install new themes and/or modules. I didn’t see much in the documentation to do this.

I’m running the latest stable release- 1.0.4

I’m talking about using modules and themes from the package page, not making 1.

for example..this gallery:
http://modxcms.com/extras/package/259

and this theme:
http://modxcms.com/extras/download/496/496

The instructions for installation are clearly listed on the Extras pages for both of those. The template also includes installation instructions in the .zip archives (template.txt).
