I know about the different purpose of Manager User and Web User.
I’m just asking the reason, since actually the "double login" makes a wasting user management scheme.
Why not just 1 login, then there will be a kind of selection (checkbox, or radio) that also allow the user be able to access the back-end?
Or was it actually that the modx development started-off from back-end management, and the front-end later on?

I see...
And what was exactly the "modx" add-on when it was rejected from Etomite?

I can explain this from a user’s viewpoint. I needed a nice, easily organized, easily extensible CMS; the site was to be in four languages and needed a custom database access module and front-end user login. Etomite looked great, but had no front-end user capability, so I was reluctantly passing it by.
Then I ran across the MODx extensions for Etomite. Among other things, it provided snippets and modules for front-end users, and the rest, as they say, is history.
So they are separate because the whole point was to not have to be hacking the core Etomite scripts in order to add the MODx extensions.
When the developers of the MODx extensions found it necessary to go to a complete fork of Etomite, there was much discussion over what to call the fork. Being a somewhat conservative grandmother, I was not at all pleased with the idea of Tattoo (make your mark on the Web), and was very thankful that it just stayed MODx.
